ArmInfo. Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia Armen Ghazaryan participates in the second conference of the Global Refugee Forum 2023 in Geneva, which takes place every 4 years. The press service of the department reports.
The source notes that the forum is aimed at supporting the practical implementation of the provisions of the Global Declaration on Refugees, including easing pressure on host countries, promoting refugee self- sufficiency, increasing access to third-country solutions, and improving conditions in countries of origin. At a meeting on the topics of employment and entrepreneurship for refugees, Armen Ghazaryan pointed out the opportunities provided by national legislation for refugees, whose package of rights includes a labor component that fully corresponds to the rights of citizens of the Republic of Armenia. He noted that success stories in the field of entrepreneurship have been recorded, in particular, among refugees who arrived in Armenia from Syria.
During the first conference of the Global Refugee Forum, the commitments undertaken by Armenia were overwhelmingly fulfilled. In particular, the migration policy of the Republic of Armenia was developed and submitted for approval to the government, the problems of integration and reintegration for 2022-2032 were resolved, and the strategy for 2022-2026 was approved. A digital platform for managing asylum cases has been launched in the republic, the problems of stateless persons have been studied, and the main reasons that have served as the basis for the increase in the number of stateless persons in the Republic of Armenia in recent years have been identified. In order to prevent an increase in this number, appropriate changes have been made to the Law "On Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia", work is underway on the draft law "On Stateless Persons", trainings have been and are being conducted aimed at developing the potential of employees of the Asylum and Legal Support Department of the Migration and Citizenship Service on international protection issues.
