ArmInfo. The process of delimiting the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan is quite a complex and lengthy process. Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan stated on December 6 during the government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, the process will be carried out exclusively on the basis of documents of legal significance. Demarcation works will be carried out on the basis of real topographic maps, rather than on maps with some kind of diagrams.
For example, Soviet maps from 1975 cover the period 1974-1979 and consist of 23 fragments that require careful research. "There is no discrete decision on the issue of delimitation, and there will be no meeting after which it will be possible to declare the completion of the delimitation process. This is simply impossible. "I emphasize that the positions of the parties in this approach are identical," the Deputy Prime Minister noted, adding that during the last meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan on the border, an agreement was reached on the development of regulations and principles for the work of delimitation commissions. This procedure will be approved in the near future, after which meetings of commission members will become institutionalized. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that during the last meeting the issue of enclaves was not discussed.
On November 30, the fifth meeting of the Commission on Delimitation and Border Security of the State Border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia was held on the border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev. As the press service of the RA MFA reports, the sides continued the discussion of border delimitation issues and touched upon a number of organizational and procedural issues. The parties have reached preliminary agreement on the text of the Order for organization and conduct of sittings and joint working meetings of the Commission on Delimitation and Border Security of the State Border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia. The sides have arranged to commence the elaborations to agree upon the draft Regulation on joint activity of the Commission on Delimitation and Border Security of the State Border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, as well as agreed to intensify the conduct of meetings between the Commissions. The sides agreed to set the date and the place of the next meeting of the commissions in working order.
