ArmInfo.On December 1, the Union "For Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" (UFPPA) published an updated list of political prisoners, which contains the names of 254 people. Over the past two months, 17 more people have been added to the list of political prisoners.
As Turan reports with reference to the UFPPA, in particular, the list was supplemented by 5 media representatives, including the director of the Abzas Media web paper Ulvi Hasanli, his deputy Mohammed Kekalov, the editor-in-chief Sevinj Vagifgyzy, an employee of this web paper Nargiz Absalamova, as well as the head of"Kanal-13" Internet TV Aziz Orujov.
The list of political prisoners also included the chairman of the Unity of Worthy Sons of Azerbaijan party, Rza Safarsoy, who was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons. However, according to human rights activists, he is being persecuted for criticizing the authorities on social networks. Member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Elnur Hasanov was arrested on charges of drug trafficking after his criticism of the traffic police. 12 religious activists (all Shiites) were also arrested on charges of drug trafficking.
Political prisoners are conditionally divided into 8 groups. Changes were made in the "Journalists and Bloggers" group, where there were 11 people, instead of 6 people; "Members of opposition parties and movements" - 13 people, instead of 11, "Believers" - 183 people, instead of 182 .
In other groups there are no changes: "Human rights activists" - 2 people; "Political emigrants deported from Germany" - 5 people; "Convicted in the Terter case" - 7 people; "Convicted in the Ganja case" - 22 people; "Sentenced for life" - 11 people.
The list was compiled by the director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy, Leyla Yunus, and the head of the Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners, Elshan Hasanov.
