ArmInfo.Russia is consistently working to transform the South Caucasus region into a zone of stability and prosperity based on a balance of interests of all states in the region and their neighbors. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova announced at a briefing on November 22.
At the same time, according to her, Western mediators, including France, have completely different goals: they seek to turn the South Caucasus into another arena of geopolitical confrontation, ignore the fundamental interests of the countries of the region, and do nothing to ensure security and stability this region.
Commenting on the statement of Secretary of the RA Security Council Armen Grigoryan that Zakharova stated that Yerevan is not changing its political vector, but is diversifying the directions of its security, Zakharova said that she would like to understand the true meaning of this statement. "Not only to hear or read as statements, as it is generally seen in practical terms. In my opinion, this is a blatant attempt to hide true intentions. It is clear that we are talking about a radical change in the republic's orientation in foreign affairs. In my opinion, this is being done very clearly, at the prompting of the West," said a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
On the other hand, Zakharova continued, the Armenian authorities are trying to hide all this, believing that in this way they can maintain the previous level of assistance and some kind of special relationship. "This is all so obvious and clear that it is impossible to hide it behind such statements and formulations," she noted, adding that all the talk about the fact that Armenia has not received a response from Russia to its requests is an attempt to find those responsible for its own miscalculations . According to her, consultations were conducted both in a bilateral format and through the CSTO. However, Yerevan decided to deploy the EU mission in the country.
Moreover, the diplomat continued, Armenia has still not responded to Russia's invitations to hold negotiations with Azerbaijan in Moscow.
"In September, October and November, the Armenian side received invitations to hold negotiations both in Moscow and on the sidelines of multilateral events, to which we still have not received clear answers. At the same time, Yerevan is conducting active negotiations in Washington and Brussels, which cannot be considered bona fide mediators, since their actions are aimed at ousting Russia from the region," Zakharova said. "And at the same time, they shamelessly steal and distort the trilateral agreements reached with the participation of Moscow to suit opportunistic considerations," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
