ArmInfo.Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the Republic of Iraq Abdul Latif Rashid , who arrived in Armenia on an official visit, discussed issues related to regional security and stability, the process of regulating Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
In particular, as the prime minister's press service reports, when receiving the Iraqi delegation, Pashinyan noted that the president's visit is of great historical significance, since Abdul Latif Rashid is the first Iraqi president to visit the Republic of Armenia. "There are rich cultural and historical ties between our countries, and I am pleased to report that there is also some activity in economic ties. I hope that during your visit economic cooperation will deepen. Of course, the situation in the world and the region is now quite complicated, and I will be glad to hear your assessments regarding the general situation and decisions," he said.
In turn, the President of Iraq noted that during the meeting with the President of the Republic of Armenia, relations between the two countries in various fields were discussed. They also talked about the current situation in Iraq and touched upon bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and trade sectors.
"I would also like to express my support to the Armenian people in connection with the Armenian Genocide. I personally attended the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Genocide. "I consider it important to emphasize the role of the Armenian community of Iraq, whose presence in our country dates back to ancient times, about 10 thousand years," the President noted.
The Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Iraq discussed issues related to cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, high technology, energy, water resources and tourism.
Prime Minister Pashinyan presented the humanitarian problems of more than 100,000 forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing policies and the steps taken by the Armenian government to overcome them.
