ArmInfo. The European People's Party called on the Armenian authorities to release vice-chairman of the Republican Party Armen Ashotyan. The head of the "I have  honor" parliamentary faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hayk Mamijanyan wrote on his Facebook page.

"The political assembly of Europe's largest political party, the  European People's Party, held at the European Parliament in Brussels,  has just adopted an urgent resolution entitled "Support for political  prisoners in the context of growing autocracy in Europe," which, in  part, reads: "We are very concerned about the contents of the prison  of the vice-chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen  Ashotyan in the absence of sufficient evidence. For more than two  months, Mr. Ashotyan has been deprived of the opportunity to  communicate with his family."

In addition, the court rejected the request of his defenders to  release Armen Ashotyan on bail, under house arrest and under the  guarantee of well-known members of the  Centrist Democrat  International  (CDI).  In the same resolution, the People's Party of  Europe calls on the Armenian authorities to release Armen Ashotyan,  guarantee a fair and transparent trial and stop the political  persecution of opponents of the authorities," Mamijanyan wrote.
