ArmInfo.Harutyun Vanyan, Director of the Department of Preservation of Historical and Cultural Monuments at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and a delegation of Armenia's Embassy in Italy, led by Ambassador of Armenia to Italy Tsovinar Hambardzumyan participated in the 33rd session of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) General Assembly in Rome
According to the press service of the RA Ministry of Education and Science, Harutyun Vanyan presented the problems of preserving historical and cultural monuments of Nagorno-Karabakh and the ongoing state policy of Azerbaijan to eliminate the Armenian trace in Artsakh, destroy historical and cultural monuments or falsify identity. In particular, the report emphasizes that saving the vast Armenian historical and cultural heritage is possible only with the help of pressure and tools from international authoritative structures. In this context, the report notes that the same situation once existed in Nakhijevan, where, unfortunately, it was not possible to preserve the Armenian historical and cultural heritage.
Specific facts and numbers on vandalisms and destruction of monuments by Azerbaijan were presented at the session. The report also noted the resolutions and decisions adopted by reputable international organizations, which Azerbaijan has been disregarding.
An agreement was reached to cooperate as part of the ICCROM First Aid and Resilience for Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis (FAR) project, given the number of at-risk monuments in Armenia.
