ArmInfo. The families of Russian peacekeepers killed in Nagorno-Karabakh in September will receive assistance in the amount of RUB 1mln from the Russian Peace Fund, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the board of the fund and leader of the LDPR party, announced in his Telegram channel.
He recalled that Russian military personnel came under fire on September 20. "We are obliged to support their families. A month has passed since the tragedy, but we will not allow it to be forgotten. The Peace Fund, under my personal control, will continue to help the relatives of the peacekeepers," he wrote.
According to the head of the LDPR, Russia must do everything possible to ensure that the families of the heroes are not left alone with their difficulties.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on September 20 that a car with Russian peacekeepers came under small arms fire near the village of Janyatag in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the military personnel were killed. Later, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev apologized to Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed deep condolences over the tragic death of Russian military personnel in Karabakh, offering to provide financial assistance to the family of the deceased military personnel. Previously, six peacekeepers were killed. As it later became known, they were killed by the Azerbaijani military as unnecessary witnesses, after they became unwitting witnesses to brutal murders and violence against civilians in Artsakh.
