ArmInfo. Immediate measures must be taken to guarantee the rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vahe Gevorgyan stated at the 44th Francophonie Ministerial Conference in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Mr Gevorgyan presented Armenia's position on various issues on the agenda of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
Referring to the broad agenda of cooperation between Armenia and the OIF, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to disseminating and strengthening the fundamental values of the organization, namely peace, democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights. As the best example of the implementation of the mentioned obligations, Gevorgyan cited Armenia's application to host the International Sports and Cultural Games of Francophonie in the Republic of Armenia in 2027.
During his speech, the deputy minister also touched upon the large-scale military attack launched by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19 and Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing. He recalled that today Armenia is making significant efforts to adequately host more than 100,000 refugees forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, including 30,000 children, and take care of their immediate needs. In this context, the need for an international guarantee of the rights of the forcibly displaced population of Nagorno-Karabakh was emphasized.
