Over the past two months, the RA Television and Radio Commission has sent 2 notes to the RA Ministry of High-Technological Industry about violations of the terms of the intergovernmental agreement by Russian television channels broadcasting to Armenia. Tigran Hakobyan, the chairman of the commission, said on November 2 during the parliamentary discussions on the draft state budget of Armenia for 2024.
According to him, the Commission has exceeded the terms of this intergovernmental agreement, since it is entrusted with the authority not only to monitor these channels at least five days a month, but also to make decisions on identified violations.
Over the past 2 months, 2 notes have been sent to the Ministry of High-Technological Industry. "The Commission has no other mandate," Hakobyan said, adding that the certificates related to the scandalous "Heirs of Tutti" TV program. Hakobyan added that he met three times with Hakobyan added that he had three meetings with the Deputy Minister of Digital Broadcasting, Communications and Media of the Russian Federation, during which the situation was presented. Hakobyan noted that the right to further negotiations with the Russian side belongs to the Ministry of High-Technological Industry.
Answering a question about the possibility of resuming broadcasting o f the CNN television channelin the public multiplex, which was suspended in September 2021, Hakobyan noted that foreign television channels can broadcast in this multiplex only if there is an intergovernmental agreement.
On October 25, during the government hour in the country's parliament, the Minister of High- Technological Industry of the Republic of Armenia Robert Khachatryan noted that Russian television channels broadcasting in Armenia committed certain violations. "The Television and Radio Commission is responsible for individual contacts and violations. We recently sent a request and received protocols on individual violations, including violations that occurred on October 23. As for the next steps, we will inform," he answered the corresponding question from the ruling party MP.
