ArmInfo. Opposition deputy from the "I Have the Honor" faction Tigran Abrahamyan doubted the sincerity of the statements of the US State Department regarding the inadmissibility of violating the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
The MP stated that the State Department today stated that the United States strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia and any violation of this sovereignty and territorial integrity will entail serious consequences.
"If the United States is sincere in its assessments, then it must explain how it happened that there were no consequences for Azerbaijan when it violated the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia in 2021- 2022, invaded the territory of the Republic of Armenia in different directions, and continues to hold these territories occupied to this day?
The same applies to warnings regarding the use of force, which were also the basis for resolving the Artsakh issue. However, not a single warning or instrument of deterrence was applied and Azerbaijan implemented its policy of genocide through the use of force during 2020-2023, thereby establishing complete control over Artsakh," Abrahamyan noted.
The oppositionist also noted that the United States did not take any action when Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev publicly stated several months ago that in international practice the solution to the problem is the use of force, not international law. "And then no one, and in this case the United States, conveyed their admonitions and warnings to the addressee, and everyone knows the consequences," Abrahamyan concluded.
Today, the US State Department, when asked to comment on yesterday's "Red Flag" warning in connection with a possible Azerbaijani invasion of Armenia in the coming days or weeks, published by the International Lemkin Institute for the Prevention of Genocide, stated in particular:
In response to the VoA Armenian Service's request to comment on yesterday's "Red Flag" warning regarding a possible Azerbaijani invasion of Armenia in the coming days or weeks, published by the International Lemkin Institute for the Prevention of Genocide, the State Department, in particular, stated:
The United States strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. The U.S. has emphasized that any violation of this sovereignty and territorial integrity will result in serious consequences.
The U.S. regularly emphasizes its expectations, such as warnings against the use of force, and continually monitors the situation. Armenia is a close partner and friend of the United States, and the U.S. looks forward to working with the Armenian authorities to strengthen Armenia's political and economic security.
According to various estimates, Azerbaijan has occupied over 150 sq km of sovereign territories over the past three years and continues to hold them against the backdrop of the inaction of the international community. The Armenian authorities refuse to give exact figures. Territories were captured in Syunik, Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik regions of the Republic of Armenia.
