ArmInfo. The Crossroads of the Peace concept proposed by Armenia is aimed, first of all, establishment of a climate of peace in the region. Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan told reporters on October 27, answering the question of whether this initiative is fraught with the loss of Meghri.
According to Simonyan, the project of the Armenian authorities promises peace and stable development, and most importantly, the preservation of the territorial integrity of Armenia. The Speaker emphasized that the idea of a "corridor" through Armenian territory is losing its relevance, and there is more and more talk about peaceful prospects.
Earlier in Tbilisi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan presented the concept of "Crossroads of Peace" in the South Caucasus. "Yerevan intends to publish a brochure in English entitled "Crossroads of the Peace", which reflects Armenia's approaches to opening regional communications. As the Prime Minister explained, the previously proposed "Armenian Crossroads" project was slightly reformatted. Yerevan will wait for the reaction of international partners to the new option for opening regional communications. According to him, the material will soon become available to the general public.
On October 17, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, at a plenary meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, announced his readiness to restore the Meghri railway, which will connect not only Armenia with Azerbaijan, but also the southern regions of Armenia with the northwestern, southwestern regions of Azerbaijan with Nakhijevan, then Armenia with Turkey, Azerbaijan with Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, East with West, from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. In Armenia, this project is called the "Armenian Crossroads", but I think that the time has come to rebrand this project, calling it "Peace Crossroads". By the same logic, we are ready to open road routes," said the head of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers.
Early last year, at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Pashinyan said that as a result of discussing the topic of opening regional communications, the North-South project was reorganized into the North-South, East-West project. The Armenian Prime Minister expressed hope that this project will be implemented quickly. "This means that one of the branches of this road, I mean "North-South, East-West", or, in short, one of the branches of the "Armenian Crossroads" will run from the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the other branch will be Azerbaijan-Armenia, and later the Nakhijevan-Turkey branch will follow. We consider this project in this general context. We hope that by the end of the year we will have a construction company that will carry out these works. The project part of the "East-West" has not been implemented, but in process, in the context of reaching political agreements, we will very quickly implement this part," said the Prime Minister of Armenia.
