ArmInfo. The main goal and task of Georgia is to establish peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As Sputnik Georgia reports, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated.
According to him, there are positive developments for the signing of a peace agreement. "I hope that this will be implemented as soon as possible, because it is in the common interests of our region to make our region a space of peace and security," Papuashvili said. As the head of the legislative body noted, Georgia, not only historically, but also in the recent past, has always been a place and a country that gave its friends Armenia and Azerbaijan the opportunity to meet for topical discussions.
"This has always been done in different formats and at different levels. Georgia is almost the only country in which both countries have absolute confidence, because during the conflict that occurred in this region, by the way, all authorities confirmed that we maintain complete neutrality regarding this conflict," Papuashvili noted.
As for the role of Georgia, here, according to the Speaker, the head of the Georgian government has especially close relations with the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan and the President of Azerbaijan. As Papuashvili noted, this role has already made a positive contribution when, in June 2021, through the mediation of Georgia, the Azerbaijani authorities released 15 Armenian POWs, and Armenia transferred minefield maps to Azerbaijan. "I am confident that playing a positive role will be important for both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Georgia, as the main link in the region, further strengthens these positions. The conference with the participation of up to 2000 delegates confirms that Georgia is becoming a regional center in many areas," Papuashvili noted.
