ArmInfo. "I believe that everyone knows the main actors in the crimes of March 1, 2008 and October 27, 1999 There is only one thing left to do - to record this fact and the appropriate punishment will follow," Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan told reporters today.
"I am sure that we all know who was behind the terrorist attack in the Armenian parliament and its reasons. "I cannot now voice these names, because from the point of view of my position, this could be perceived as an accusation, but, as in the case of March 1, and since October 27, everyone knows the masterminds of these crimes," Simonyan emphasized, adding that there are temporary difficulties regarding the terrorist attack of October 27, 1999. He, however, noted that he is familiar with the investigation exactly as much as the citizens of the country are familiar with it. Simonyan pointed to the presence of political will to reveal those who ordered the crime. The Speaker emphasized that there is a witness in the person of an investigator who carried out investigative measures in the case of a terrorist attack in the National Assembly and who is not currently in the country.
Simonyan avoided a direct answer to the question whether he was referring to the second and third presidents of the Republic of Armenia.
On October 27, 1999, five people armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles, led by the group leader, journalist Nairi Hunanyan, entered the parliament building during government hour. Seven people were shot -then Prime Minister Vazen Sargsyan and Speaker of Parliament Karen Demirchyan, ministers and MPs. Another parliamentarian died of a heart attack. 7 MPs were injured. More than 40 people were taken hostage. The trial of the terrorists began in February 2001. On December 2, 2003, the Court of First Instance of Center-Nork-Marash sentenced the brothers Nairi and Karen Hunanyan, Edik Grigoryan, Vram Galstyan (in 2004 he died in custody, according to the official version, by committing suicide), Derenik Bejanyan and Ashot Knyazyan to life imprisonment. Hamlet Stepanyan was sentenced to 14 years in prison (In May 2010, his body was discovered in his bed in the Nubarashen penitentiary). All seven were found guilty of treason and terrorism. The RA Court of Cassation upheld the verdict. The customers of this outrageous crime are still unknown.
