ArmInfo.Hungary is a country that is proud of its Christian heritage. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Peter Szijjarto stated on October 27 in Yerevan at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, when asked to comment on the possibility of preserving the Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage in the Azerbaijani- occupied territories of Artsakh, which is constantly subject to Azerbaijani vandalism.
"Talking about this in Europe now, by the way, is a challenge, because the liberal mainstream rules in politics. In other words, we are a nation that is proud of its Christian heritage, although it is difficult to talk about it in Europe as of today. If someone says that they are proud of their Christianity, they look at them askance. But we believe it is important to promote Christian communities in a global context. In a number of countries we have financed programs whose purpose is the direct protection of architectural objects and Christian churches. If there is such an opportunity and need, we are ready, based on our Christian aspirations, we will be happy to help," he said.
Asked to comment on reports that Hungary had put a veto on an EU statement on Azerbaijan's aggression against Artsakh, Hungarian FM said in part: "Iwill say the following: the EU has a high representative, Mr. Borrell. He always makes statements freely, we do not put veto on them. And since he has such power, we consider it unnecessary to agree on everything that he has to say on behalf of everyone. He is the supreme representative, all responsibility and authority is in his hands. He can make statements, and he makes them." "Not only on this issue, but on other issues as well. We said - this is the high representative, this is his job, he must make statements. He holds this position and receives a salary for that. This is our point of view in general."
