ArmInfo. Armenia must use any format to resolve its security problems, Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, RA Parliament, told reporters on Monday, as he commented on the expectations about the FMs' meeting in Tehran in the 3+3 format.
He highlighted the importance of the participation of the countries of the region in solving regional problems, including the Russian Federation, which is one way or another present in the South Caucasus. "Armenia's task in the region is the inviolability of borders and countering the forces that are trying to create problems for it behind the country's back. In this format, it is necessary to protect our interests. Constant hostility did no one any good. The conflict between Israel and Palestine is clear evidence of this. Conflicts are resolved through negotiations, but this does not mean that a peace treaty should not provide for a solution to the problem with the security environment of our country," the MP noted.
Kocharyan also commented on the issue of delayed deliveries of Russian weapons worth $400 million. He noted that Yerevan is still waiting for these deliveries. "We gave these millions to get weapons. Now we are waiting for weapons. Any contract includes both deadlines and sanctions if these deadlines are violated," the deputy noted.
Today a meeting of foreign ministers in the <3+3> format is scheduled to take place in Tehran, at which discussions on regional security issues are expected to take place.
Earlier, Armenian media reported that the Russian weapons manufacturer Splav JSC contacted the Armenian Ministry of Defense about the fact that the order for Smerch MLRS missiles was ready. But the specialists of the Armenian Ministry of Defense for more than a year have not organized the transportation of goods. For a long time they did not keep it in the warehouse, and the shells were used after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. And yet, Moscow expressed its readiness to supply new goods to Yerevan, but in batches. The Armenian media also learned that after 2020, Russia offered to supply Armenia with weapons and ammunition amount of $1.4 billion on credit with a repayment period of 20 years. The first contract for $400 million had already been approved and was ready to be signed, but suddenly Armenia abandoned these agreements. Instead, Yerevan entered into agreements with private companies from India and transferred to Delhi immediately $500 million in advance payment, but still have not received even 5% of the ordered volumes.
