ArmInfo. The visit of Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte indicates a new dynamic in the development of bilateral relations, head of the Armenian Cabinet said on October 19 at a briefing following a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart.
According to him, this is evidenced by mutual visits, which have intensified in recent years. The Presidents of Lithuania and Armenia made mutual visits in 2022 and 2023. In 2021, the Prime Minister of Armenia also paid a working visit to Lithuania.
"Lithuania is one of our reliable partners in the EU. And we are grateful for the political support provided to us by Lithuania in EU-Armenia relations, in helping us make decisions that are important for us in the EU. One of such solutions is the deployment of a civilian observation mission along the state border of Armenia with Azerbaijan," Pashinyan said.
He recalled that in his speech in the European Parliament he stated that Armenia is ready to be closer to the EU as much as the EU considers this possible. "We discussed with Prime Minister Simonyte what this means or could mean in practice. We also talked about decisions to be made in the EU in the near future, which also concern the South Caucasus region," he noted.
Pashinyan presented the Armenian project and the proposal of the "Crossroads of Peace" to the Prime Minister of Lithuania, which he spoke about from the rostrum of the European Parliament. . The main goal of the project, as explained by the Prime Minister of RA, is the restarting and activating north-south, east- west regional communications, including through the territory of Armenia, which will connect the Caspian Sea with the Mediterranean, the Black Sea with the Persian Gulf.
"This can become a long-term guarantee of stability and development not only of our region, but also become an important link in global economic cooperation. This can also intensify economic ties between the EU-Armenia and Lithuania-Armenia," the Prime Minister of Armenia said.
In recent years, trade turnover between Armenia and Lithuania has increased significantly in percentage, but absolute figures remain symbolic, the RA Prime Minister emphasized. According to him, the Armenian-Lithuanian intergovernmental cooperation commission has something to think about and something to work on. The prime ministers agreed to intensify this work.
