ArmInfo. About 5 thousand forcibly displaced residents of Nagorno-Karabakh have been relocated in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia. Regional Governor Karen Sargsyan told reporters on October 13.
He noted that due to the influx of refugees in the region, a rather difficult situation has developed, which is also typical for other regions of the republic. "Everyone has problems, including us. To the extent possible, we review and accept all requests. There was no case when our compatriots appealed, and we did not react," the governor said. He added that there are no hostels in the region; displaced people, as a rule, are accommodated either in houses or in hotels.
Answering a question about the fate of the Sotk mine, Sargsyan noted that the mine continues to partially operate. Moreover, ore mining is carried out using a closed method.
ArmInfo previously reported that due to periodic shelling by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the mine is being operated in a closed way. The mine is located on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Gegharkunik region. It was discovered in 1951 by the Soviet Armenian geologist Tigran Stepanyan. Processing of ore from the largest gold deposit in Armenia is carried out at the Ararat gold recovery plant. The diluted reserves are estimated at 130 tons. The mine is operated by GeoProMining Gold.
