ArmInfo.The conditions under which the Russian peacekeeping contingent was sent to Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020 have been corrected. They will be adapted to new realities. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova announced on October 10 during a weekly briefing.
The Russian diplomat recalled that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh has changed dramatically over the past year.
According to hir, in October 2022, the Prime Minister of Armenia recognized the Karabakh territory as an Azerbaijani territory at the summit held in Prague under the auspices of the EU and reaffirmed his position at the Brussels summits in May and July of this year.
"Thus, the conditions under which the RPC was sent to the region in 2020 have been seriously corrected, and amid the mass exodus of the population after the clashes on September 19-20, the activities of our peacekeepers will be adapted. In fact, the President of the Russian Federation recently spoke about this," - said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In this regard, she informed that a number of RPC observation posts in Nagorno-Karabakh have already been closed. Zakharova added that Moscow is discussing fundamental issues related to Russian peacekeepers with Baku.
Regarding the possibility of holding a trilateral meeting between Baku and Yerevan through the mediation of Moscow, Zakharova promised to provide information if such an agreement is reached.
Earlier Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin did not rule out organizing a similar meeting in Bishkek on the sidelines of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council on October 12, if Yerevan gives such consent. However, yesterday the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Armenian Foreign Minister will not visit Bishkek.
