ArmInfo. The general contours of the upcoming meetings of the Prime Minister of Armenia in Granada are outlined.
Thus, President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, upon arrival at the summit of the European Political Community in Granada, told reporters that the European Union will allocate more than EUR 25 million in aid to Armenia after Azerbaijan's military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The head of the European Commission said that she will hold a meeting with Pashinyan in Granada and discuss support for Armenia.
"We have allocated EUR 5.2 million. I will tell the Prime Minister of Armenia [Nikol Pashinyan] today that we are happy to double this amount to EUR10.2 million. And that we are giving another EUR 15 million in aid for the Armenia's budget," she said.
In turn, a high-ranking EU official on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Spanish Granada informed journalists that the leaders of Armenia, France, Germany and the European Council Nikol Pashinyan, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Charles Michel will hold a meeting in Granada, despite the absence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
"A quadrilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia, France, Germany and the European Council will be held to discuss the current situation, discuss what the EU can do, prospects for further work on normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as practical measures to promote and deepen the EU- Armenia agenda," he said.
And President of the European Counci, Charles Michel, told reporters that during a recent conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, he indicated that he "cannot have territorial claims against Armenia" and demanded to guarantee mutual recognition of their territorial integrity by Baku and Yerevan. "I spoke two days ago with President Aliyev, and I clearly told him that he cannot have territorial claims against Armenia. This must be stated out loud and it must be ensured that there is mutual recognition of the territorial integrity [of Armenia and Azerbaijan]," he said, while refusing to publicly comment on Aliyev's decision not to come to Granada.
Michel promised to tell Aliyev personally what he thinks about this. "The EU mediation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is aimed at protecting the interests of the European Union in this region. Until we started this mediation, we were not particularly active in the Caucasus. These EU mediation efforts mean that we are protecting our interests, we are promoting our values in this region "Michel said, as reported by the media.
