ArmInfo. On October 4, Mher Margaryan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, held a meeting with Alice Wairimu Nderitu, Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Genocide Prevention and Deputy Secretary-General, to brief her on the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and discuss how the UN's plans to respond to the situation.
As reported on the website of the Armenian permanent mission, touching upon the statement of the special adviser dated September 22, in which the latter reported on the atrocities threatening the civilian population as a result of military operations, including threats of genocide, the RA Ambassador emphasized that the current reaction of UN bodies in connection with Azerbaijan's aggression cannot be considered satisfactory. In this vein, he pointed out the importance of greater involvement in this issue by the Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide.
The RA Permanent Representative emphasized that the distorted description of the situation by the mission coordinating the UN office in Azerbaijan, which visited Nagorno-Karabakh, which had already been cleared of Armenians, is used on the Azerbaijani side to conceal ethnic cleansing and exploit the UN's role in this. A call was made to conduct a joint study visit with UN bodies to document the crimes committed by Azerbaijan against forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh in order to provide reliable information.
The Special Adviser reaffirmed his commitment to contribute and participate in activities carried out by the United Nations.
