ArmInfo. At a plenary session on October 3, the National Assembly of Armenia ratified the Rome Statute of the UN International Criminal Court.
60 MPs voted for the adoption of the document with 22 votes against.
Before the vote, MP from the "I Have Honor" bloc, representative of the Republican Party Hayk Mamijanyan noted that the RPA twice made statements that the very discussion of the statute in parliament contradicts the requirements of the Constitution. Moreover, ratifying the statute will not bring any benefit to the country, considering the fact that neither Turkey nor Azerbaijan have signed it. Even the members of the UN Security Council, Russia, the USA, and China either did not ratify or did not sign the Rome Statute at all. "Armenia will not receive any benefit from this document, not to mention the numerous dangers," the MP said.
The "Armenia" faction also announced its intention to vote against it, whose secretary Artsvik Minasyan also pointed out the unconstitutionality of the presented document.
In turn, Mp from the ruling "Civil Contract" faction Vladimir Vardanyan, emphasized that what happened in Artsakh is a crime against humanity. As a result of this crime and the policy of ethnic cleansing carried out by the Azerbaijani authorities, a significant part of our compatriots is now in the sovereign part of Armenia. "And this gives grounds to raise the issue at the ICC. In this regard, I would like to see how our partners from the opposition will vote," Vardanyan emphasized.
Today, the RA National Assembly completed almost the entire agenda of its sessions in just half a day, voting in favor of all the submitted bills.
