ArmInfo. Azerbaijan carries out arbitrary detentions of Armenians at the checkpoint and before passing through it. This is an extremely worrying fact. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated on September 28 at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
"Our state bodies should take proportionate steps to protect the rights of arbitrarily detained citizens in all such cases, up to and including international bodies," Pashinyan said.
As Pashinyan indicated, this issue should remain on the agenda of the RA Cabinet of Ministers until they are properly addressed.
Yesterday, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan confirmed the fact of the capture of philanthropist, businessman and former Minister of State of Artsakh Ruben Vardanyan while trying to leave Artsakh, publishing the corresponding photograph and video from his detention. The Azerbaijani authorities accused Ruben Vardanyan of financing terrorism, participating in the formation and activities of armed formations or groups not provided for by law, and organizing the illegal arrival of a foreigners or persons without citizenship in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
