ArmInfo. "Contacts between the two sides continue. You should not pay attention to those who make extremist statements of various kinds, who question the relations between Russia and Armenia. All of this is temporary." This was stated on September 27 during a weekly briefing by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in response to the question whether there are chances to restore relations between Yerevan and Moscow after a portion of mutual accusations and recriminations.
She added that Moscow has already seen all this by the example of other states. "We understand who is behind this and who is inciting such sentiments. Believe me, the people of Armenia have gone through many challenges, experienced tragedies that probably have not befallen any other people. And they know who is an enemy, who is a friend: The people of Armenia know that help has always come from Russia in various formats. And the Armenian people know and remember this, despite the fact that colossal resources are now being devoted to information processing of the media space within Armenia," she said. In this vein, Zakharova noted that 2,000 people are employees of the US Embassy in Armenia, who are engaged in exactly this, processing the information space of the Republic of Armenia.
"We all see this, everyone sees this, and this too shall pass. I really wish that all this will pass with minimal consequences, although we see that where the American foot passes or what the American hand touches, unfortunately, it is subject to deepest crises. We are now seeing this in the region, because over the past year it was the Western world, it was Washington, Brussels, Paris that declared themselves as new mediators and new guarantors. You see what all this has led to," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
In conclusion, she noted that Russia continues to fulfill its mission. "Our peacekeepers are in the region, this is the best confirmation of our intentions and real true attitude. We have always treated our allied relations with Armenia with care, we have never been and will not be the initiators of their aggravation," Zakharova summed up.
On September 24, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sharply criticized Russia's actions in the region, accusing Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh of an inadequate response to the ongoing Azerbaijani aggression. He was also supported by the Speaker of the RA Parliament Alen Simonyan. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement, noting that Pashinyan is trying to shift responsibility for what is happening now in the region to Moscow, meanwhile, it was his decisions in Prague and Brussels that predetermined the future of Nagorno-Karabakh.
