ArmInfo. We highlight the meeting especially during the period, when the situation in Armenia and in Nagorno Karabakh is rather complicated, when the inner and external challenges have an effect on today's security environment, which undermine the bases of statehood, security and the Armenian people's unity: Head of the RA NA Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan said during the meeting with the members of the delegation led by the U.S. Senator Gary Peters, the press service of the RA NA reports.
It took place on September 25, where the deputies of the RA NA Armenia Faction Anna Grigoryan, Lilit Galstyan and the deputy of the RA NA With Honor Faction Taguhi Tovmasyan, as well as the U.S, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Kristina Alyson Kvien.
Seyran Ohanyan presented the situation in Nagorno Karabakh to the members of the delegation. "Azerbaijan always retaliated the self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh with wars, military operations, and aimed at depopulating Armenians with silent agreement of the international community," the Head of the NA Armenia Faction, underscoring that today the next genocide is carried out by the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem against the Nagorno Karabakh Armenians instead of self-determination. "It is a pleasure to meet with our colleagues of the legislative structure. We have very many commonalities within the framework of the legislative activities," Gary Peters said thanking the Head of the RA NA Armenia Faction for the warm reception and conveying the greetings of the colleagues of the Senate. He noted that he represents the State of Michigan, where there is a big Armenian community. According to him, the Armenians living there, are imbued with great love towards homeland, are interested in the ongoing developments in Armenia. The Senator noted that after the meeting he expects the problems and ways, by which the U.S. can be useful, to be presented.
Taguhi Tovmasyan mentioned that the Armenians are in a difficult period. "We know from the textbooks of how they shot, committed genocide against in 1915, as a result of which the Armenian Diaspora increased. On September 19, we witnessed how Nagorno Karabakh was blockaded and bombed. People had no place to escape," the Taguhi Tovmasyan detailed, speaking about numerous victims, displaced, captured and kidnapped citizens. She mentioned that they expect the support of more influential countries for defending the homeland and maintain democracy. The MP added that after the cases of Nagorno Karabakh the next atrocities will be committed in Armenia and to prevent them it is necessary to act, imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan and its President. Lilit Galstyan noted that what happens in Nagorno Karabakh, is a genocide, which could be prevented if the attitude of the international community would be adequate. "Unfortunately, not holding accountable the aggressor by the international community, burned green light, and today, we have clear genocide: ethnic cleansing, destruction of cultural heritage, forcibly displaced people and humanitarian disaster," Lilit Galstyan said. She mentioned that though the USA condemned the actions of Azerbaijan at the level of senators and congress members, however Armenia was expecting more distinct, addressed actions. Speaking about the security problems, the deputy of the Armenia Faction noted that the international community and especially the USA should work out guaranteed mechanisms for the protection of the residents of Nagorno Karabakh and if necessary, guarantee the way of their salivation. "I have repeatedly spoken up about the Resolution 907, which related to the military support by the USA to Azerbaijan. Green light was burnt for the aggressor with that Resolution," Lilit Galstyan added, expressing conviction that the USA will make sufficient efforts for ensuring guarantees of peace and security. Anna Grigoryan noted that Azerbaijan was not punished for the aggressive actions of 2020, and today also continues acting with the same handwriting. She asked her colleagues to act, noting that otherwise the ethnic cleansing and genocide will be carried out. "Your messages were very clear, and I realize that it is a historical moment for this country. I would like to mention that I am the initiator of the legislative bill on actions noted by you in the USA. One of them is to give powers to the U.S. President in order he could impose sanctions against such a player as Azerbaijan. A reference will be made also to the Resolution 907 on restricting the support to Azerbaijan. The legislation will also envisage financing for humanitarian aid," the U.S. Senator Gary Peters said. He also informed that he would visit the Lachin corridor and would meet the forcibly displaced persons.
