ArmInfo. Eternal war and the current situation are not beneficial to anyone. President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan stated in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia, commenting on the possibility of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.
He noted that Yerevan and Baku are very close to signing the document. "We have a historic opportunity for this," said the speaker, expressing hope for reaching agreement on the points of the peace treaty in Granada. "We would really like to take a step forward in Granada, to use the historical chance, since no one needs an eternal war and the current situation," noted the head of the Armenian parliament. He recalled that on June 15, with the participation of President of the European Council Charles Michel, it was recorded that the countries recognized each other's territorial integrity, border delimitation will take place on the basis of the 1991 Almaty Agreement, and the opening of transport communications should be based on the preservation of the sovereignty of the states through which they pass.
"The Almaty Declaration is a good and agreed basis for this," the speaker emphasized.
On September 26, a meeting between Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan and Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev, as well as Advisors to the President of France, the Chancellor of Germany and the President of the European Council, is scheduled in Brussels. The main purpose of the meeting is the preparation of the leaders' meeting, which is scheduled for October 5 in Granada, Spain within the framework of the summit of the European Political Community.
