ArmInfo. Many expectations about Nagorno-Karabakh were associated with the mediation of France and President Emmanuel Macron personally, Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova recalled in an interview with RT France correspondent Igor Kurashenko.
"Look what this has led to. Paris tried to intercept this mediation agenda and say that France would be better able to mediate than anyone else, especially Russia. While Russia performed its functions as a mediator, there were really good, fundamental grounds for moving along a peaceful path to a settlement: As soon as Western ideology began to wedge itself into the situation, everything changed," she said.
According to Zakharova, this can serve as a lesson for everyone who will lean towards the West in its mediation.
"After all, Paris this time did not even consider it necessary to find any words in order to somehow explain itself. After all, for at least the last year, Paris has constantly said that it is the main mediator, at least from the point of view of official Yerevan," Makharova said.
