ArmInfo. EU states are assessing the situation in Nagorno- Karabakh and have not yet made any decisions to impose sanctions against Baku. Lead Spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano stated at a briefing on September 21.
He commented on the calls heard in the European Parliament to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan. "Any decision on sanctions is made by member states. Member states assess the current situation that is developing in Nagorno-Karabakh," said a representative of the European Commission.
Stano emphasized that the possible response to the situation in Karabakh should be international, which is why EU states are recently consulting with partners within the UN General Assembly. "At this stage, there is no decision by the member states on any specific measures to be taken. They are in the process of being assessed after consultations with partners: The answer should be international," the speaker noted, calling for observation of the debates in the UN Security Council on Thursday, which will dedicated to the situation in Karabakh.
