ArmInfo. Moscow declared a diplomatic demarche to Azerbaijan due to statements by the country's Foreign Ministry regarding elections in new regions of Russia, this was stated by Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on September 13 during a briefing, commenting on the September 9 statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry about fictitious elections held on the territory of Ukraine.
Earlier, Baku stated that Azerbaijan and Ukraine recognize and support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. <Azerbaijan declares that any elections held on the territory of Ukraine in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of this state can be considered legitimate: < >: Since the latest "elections" held in part of the internationally recognized territories of Ukraine do not meet these criteria, they do not have legal force," stated the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
<I have a question about this comment. What is it for, why is it, because such assessments cannot be accepted by us. These are unacceptable assessments and they are not consistent with the allied level of relations between our countries. Therefore, a diplomatic demarche was sent to the Azerbaijani side," Zakharova said.
"We proceed from the fact that Baku should treat the issues of the territorial integrity of our country with the same respect that our partners expect from our side when it comes to the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan," she said.
<I think our Azerbaijani friends know the history of the new regions very well. And they know it not from the media, but from our shared past. Because they had the opportunity to simply observe this process in a historical context," Zakharova said, adding that the Russian Federation proceeds from the fact that it is in this understanding that the appropriate political basis for comments should emerge.
