ArmInfo. There is no rewriting the history of Armenian- Russian relations, Russian foreign office spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated.
She asked how many conflicts have been extinguished over the past 2-3 years, thanks to the efforts of the Russian Federation and Russian President Vladimir Putin personally. "Doesn't anyone in Yerevan know about this? Of course they do. So why do they admit and allow themselves such statements. Want to rewrite history? This will not work, because the people of Armenia know their history very well, and, moreover, they know about the role of Russia in the fate of the Armenian people," Zakharova said.
Answering a question about Moscow's reaction to the armed provocation by the advanced units of the Azerbaijani armed forces that occurred on September 1, Zakharova noted that Moscow condoles on the death of Armenian servicemen in the village of Sotk and calls on the parties to refrain from actions which lead to escalation, tension, and even more so, to human casualties. This incident, she said, once again confirmed the low effectiveness of the European Union mission stationed in Armenia. In this regard, Zakharova again proposed placing a CSTO mission on the border area between Armenia and Azerbaijan. She also drew attention to the need to carry out regular work on the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with Russian advisory assistance, while simultaneously implementing a set of measures to strengthen confidence-building measures. "The ball is in Yerevan's court. All other members of the Organization have expressed their readiness for this step," Zakharova said.
