ArmInfo.Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I held a meting with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea. The Catholicos spoke of the grave situation round Nagorno-Karabakh.
Aram I emphasized that "the crisis in Artsakh is not only a humanitarian crisis, but, in fact, it is a political problem related to the right to self-determination of the Armenians of Artsakh."
The Patriarch then stated that Azerbaijan had created a humanitarian crisis by dooming more than 120,000 people to starvation in order to obliterate the right to self-determination by either depriving Artsakh of its Armenian population, or by starving the Armenian people, exposing them to racial discrimination.
Appreciating the various forms of American support for the Armenian people, Armenia and Artsakh, His Holiness said that the Armenian people expect more. His Eminence also touched upon the large-scale protests of Diaspora Armenians in different parts of the world.
The ambassador, who is well acquainted with both the historical and political aspects of the Artsakh issue, promised His Holiness to convey his concerns and expectations to the authorities of the United States of America.
The meeting also discussed the presidential elections in Lebanon. The importance of holding urgent elections in order to push the state towards the reconstruction process, especially in the socio-economic area, was stressed.
