ArmInfo. After the 44-day war, when the Azerbaijanis settled on the outskirts of Kapan, including 100 meters from the Kapan airport, it was already obvious that the operation of the airport would depend on the mood of the Azerbaijanis, Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the opposition faction With Honor, Parliament of Armenia, wrote as he commented on the overnight shooting of the Kapan airport.
"While yesterday Pashinyan smugly landed at Kapan airport and once again spoke about the start of air transportation, a few hours later, according to the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, at 04:24 on the night of August 18, an unknown person drove up in a car to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and with on the territory of Azerbaijan fired shots at the airport. Two bullets damaged one of the windows and the roof of the airport," the MP stated.
In this vein, he drew attention to the fact that the official report of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia does not say anything about what actions the Armenian law enforcement agencies took in response.
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia also called on the Azerbaijanis to conduct a proper investigation into the incident. But I do not think that the National Security Service is so naive as to think that the incident was the result of an accident or amateur performance.
The airport can be safely operated only in those cases when either the Azerbaijanis are pushed back from their respective positions, or, in the worst case, when there is such a government in the Republic of Armenia, in which case the Azerbaijanis will think a hundred times before going for such a provocation.
By the way, this was both a personal slap in the face and humiliation to Pashinyan, with whom the Azerbaijanis showed their place to the Armenian government. It's also a warning, Mr Abrahamyan stated.
