ArmInfo. Armenia should understand what it benefits from the EUMA in military or political terms, believes Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the opposition faction With Honor, Parliament of Armenia.
He recalls the EU assumed patrolling commitments, and both Armenian authorities and EU representatives highlighted the importance of that role in preventing a possible aggression by Azerbaijan.
"Now Azerbaijan provokes violations of the ceasefire even in their presence. And this cannot be an accident, since information about the patrol schedule is transmitted from the EU to Azerbaijan.
"In recent days, when there has been some activity on the front lines and forecasts of a possible new wave of tension have again come to the fore, it is necessary to reconsider and clarify the role of the EU monitoring mission and the question of the political consequences of its work. Roughly speaking, it is necessary to understand what this mission gives Armenia from the military or political point of view? So that in the end it does not turn out that we have not solved any problem, and Armenia has only one "gift" left - a consequence of the confrontation between Russia and the West," Mr Abrahamyan wrote.
Yesterday, Armenia's Ministry of Defense reported the EUMA came under Azerbaijani fire while patrolling. The EUMA refuted that information.
Later, however, a video was posted of an EUMA member reporting the fact of shooting, the EUMA posted the following statement on its Twitter account:
"CORRECTING STATEMENT:
"We confirm that EUMA patrol has been present to the shooting incident in our area of responsibility. No EUMA member was harmed."
