ArmInfo. A truck with humanitarian cargo from French cities joined the convoy of vehicles from the Armenian government loaded with essential goods for Artsakh, besieged by Azerbaijan. Vardan Sargsyan, the representative of the working group on managing the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, announced on the air of the Public Television of Armenia.
"Another truck with humanitarian cargo has just joined our convoy. This is the initiative of several cities and regions of France as a sign of solidarity and support to the people of Nagorno Karabakh who have been under siege for almost 8 months.
It is gratifying that not only Armenian private companies, but also friendly French cities and regions respond and join this humanitarian initiative of Armenia. This indicates once again that the aggravating humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh is gaining wider, international resonance and proves that urgent steps are needed to open the illegally closed Kashatagh (Lachin) corridor and ensure humanitarian access to Artsakh," he said.
When asked whether there are guarantees that the cargo located in the border zone of Kornidzor will be delivered to Artsakh, Sargsyan assured that steps are being taken to achieve this goal. "Unfortunately, at the moment I can say that there is no news or response on this matter," the diplomat said, reminding that there are about two dozen trucks in the Kornidzor border zone already for the fifteenth day. Since July 26, trucks with 360 tons of humanitarian cargo have been standing in Kornidzor since July 26 and are waiting to cross the besieged Artsakh.
Since December 12, 2022, Artsakh has been under blockade imposed by Azerbaijan. If until June 15 of this year the International Committee of the Red Cross and Russian peacekeepers had the opportunity to deliver at least limited quantities of essential products for the besieged population of Artsakh, then after June 15 this opportunity is not there either. The 120,000 population of Artsakh is on the verge of starvation amid the inaction of the international community.
