ArmInfo.Preparing an Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement is one of the elements of the trilateral agreements by the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani leaders, Alexey Zaitsev of Russia's foreign office stated.
According to him, the Russian side is energetically assisting Baku and Yerevan in the preparation of this document. "Political and diplomatic channels are used at all levels. Trilateral summits are held annually, and the heads of foreign affairs agencies meet regularly. Signals from Yerevan and Baku about their commitment to a speedy settlement do not mean that the parties are ready to agree to any conditions. Solutions still need to be found on a number of difficult topics," said Zaitsev, adding that Moscow proceeds from this.
Regarding the reaction of the US State Department to the statement by the Director of the Fourth Department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Denis Gonchar that from a number of Western countries from time to time there are statements that Armenia and Azerbaijan can sign a peace treaty in the coming weeks and months, but the rush may turn into new conflicts in the future, Zaitsev noted that Gonchar only said that there was no need to speed up the process.
"He talked about the fact that there is no need to speed up the process, and he should go as long as possible to get high-quality, reliable agreements at the end.
It may be beneficial for someone to speed up the process, to achieve something as soon as possible, but the question is how this will be done. That is what he emphasized in his interview," the Russian diplomat summed up.
It should be noted that on August 7, the State Department, reacting to Gonchar's statements, stated that despite any comments from other countries that are not parties to this issue, an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains within reach, and the United States will continue to work with these countries for its achievements.
