ArmInfo. On behalf ofU.S. Senator Robert Menendez, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, a delegation led by representatives of the Committee representatives Sarah Arkin and Damian Murphy visited Armenia.
According to the press service of the Syunik region, on August 7 they held a meeting with Syunik Governor Robert Ghukasyan and Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan. The Armenian side informed the guests about the situation on the borders of Syunik, Azerbaijan's encroachments on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and the resulting humanitarian disaster.
Today, an American delegation, accompanied by the Governor of Syunik, visited the village of Kornidzor of the Tegh community, and witnessed that there was no traffic on the Hakari bridge and that the only road connecting Artsakh with the rest of the world was closed. Representatives of the US Senate also considered the fact that a humanitarian convoy (360 tons of food, ed. note), sent by the RA government, have been standing on this side of the border for several days and cannot reach the residents of Artsakh who need them.
Since December 12, 2022, Artsakh has been under blockade imposed by Azerbaijan. If until June 15 of this year the International Committee of the Red Cross and Russian peacekeepers had the opportunity to deliver at least limited quantities of essential products for the besieged population of Artsakh, then after June 15 this opportunity is not there either. The 120,000 population of Artsakh is on the verge of starvation amid the inaction of the international community.
