First Deputy Mayor, acting Mayor of Yerevan Levon Hovhannisya said during a meeting with Mr. Viktor Richter, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia.
As the press service of Yerevan Municipality reports, touching upon the establishment of cooperation between Yerevan and German cities and the agenda of bilateral relations, the parties stressed the importance of exchanging experience in areas of interest.
Speaking about the energy efficiency and bus fleet reform projects being implemented in Yerevan by the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Mr. Hovhannisyan thanked the Federal Republic of Germany, which is one of the donor countries of this grant.
The acting mayor noted that with the cooperation of the state, the public and international partners, Yerevan is implementing the reforms of the transport system step by step.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and readiness to expand cooperation, Mr. Richter noted that he is ready to support and facilitate the strengthening and deepening of bilateral ties, as well as the implementation of joint projects within the framework of his powers.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on the exchange programs for specialists and students in the field of general education.
In early April, 237 new buses entered the new public transport routes. This year alone, the city's fleet has been replenished with 165 new buses of the Zhong Tong brand and 87 buses of the MAN brand. Deliveries of German buses are carried out within the framework of a loan agreement between Yerevan Municipality and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD financing has two components - a EUR 20 million sovereign loan and a EUR 5 million grant from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund. According to the data of the municipality, public transport in Yerevan has been updated by 90% as of the spring of 2023.
