ArmInfo. Nomination of candidates for participation in elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan began on August 3, but so far no party has applied for participation. Head of the Central Election Commission Vahagn Hovakimyan announced on August 3 at a press conference.
According to Hovakimyan, applications for participation in the elections will be accepted on August 3-13, candidates will be registered on August 13-18, election campaigns will be organized on August 23-September 15, and September 16 will be declared the day of silence.
As of July 14, the number of voters with the right to vote in the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan is 823 thousand 559 people. In the previous elections, in September 2018, this number was 848,343. <The reason, I think, is that data on citizens whose documents are overdue by 6 months or more have been removed from the lists. In fact, as a result of these changes, the number of voters in Yerevan decreased by 25,000," Hovakimyan said.
Vahagn Hovakimyan also noted that the CEC added new tools to the online toolkit for nominating parties in the upcoming September 17 elections.
The head of the CEC said that invitations to participate in the elections to the Council of Elders as observers were sent to the electoral authorities of 20 countries and 5 international organizations.

The party that wins them will form the city government and elect the mayor of Yerevan. The current vice-mayor, former vice-premier Tigran Avinyan is running for the post of mayor from the ruling Civil Contract party. Head of the Luys faction in the Council of Elders David Khazhakyan, former head of the Kentron (Center) administrative district of Yerevan Viktor Mnatsakanyan, chair of the Country of living party Mane Tandilyan, member of the board of the National Progress party Hayk Grigoryan, Major General of Justice Nelli Harutyunyan from the Fatherland Power party will also take part in the elections. The For Social Justice party (also known as For the Sake of Social Justice) also announced its participation in the elections.
