ArmInfo. Inquiry Committee for Studying the Circumstances of the Hostilities Unleashed on September 27, 2020 (44-day war in Artsakh) intends to compare all the testimonies given during the sessions of the Committee and present a generalized report at the plenary session of the RA National Assembly. Andranik Kocharyan, chairman of the Committee, MP from the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, told journalists on August 1.
According to him, the task of the Committee is to compare all contradictory testimonies, and by conducting their own research to come to a final conclusion. Kocharyan noted that closed discussions of the Committee will take place tomorrow, during which issues related to digital indicators will be studied.
"During the war, the number of Armenian armed forces was to be brought up to 100 thousand people. Why were we not prepared for this? Or did they think that it would be a local conflict? The Armed Forces had to be prepared for large-scale military operations for years, and not only in 2018- 2020," the parliamentarian emphasized, at the same time adding that no one can predict what consequences a war could lead to.
Kocharyan stressed that Armenia should have an ultra-modern air force, for the formation of which it is necessary to prepare in advance, including on the issue of basing - on the ground or underground. <For 44 days, the Armenian armed forces stood alone against the coalition. Today we are looking for those responsible for the defeat, but there were also heroic soldiers who held back the enemy. Their comrades-in-arms are buried in the Yerablur memorial complex. They fought to the death so that those behind don't die >, Kocharyan noted.
The MP stressed that Nagorno-Karabakh is a territory that is one of the foundations of the security system of the Republic of Armenia. The parliamentarian urged not to speculate on the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, comparing the current situation with the 1990s, when their generation faced an even more serious situation, but managed to overcome it. When Azerbaijan realizes that the people of Artsakh cannot be brought to their knees even by blockade, the Armenian side will win. <Let's not be afraid! Naturally, the psychological state of those in Artsakh and those in the Republic of Armenia cannot be compared, but let's overcome difficulties together, and not turn them into a topic for political speculation. We should find ways to overcome the blockade together," said the head of the Committee. Kocharyan recalled that Artsakh has a president, parliament, laws, although citizens now live under the blockade. In this context, he recalled Kosovo, which can become an example for international community regarding Artsakh. At the same time, Kocharyan expressed his conviction that Nagorno-Karabakh will eventually find solutions that will help avoid shocks.
