ArmInfo. The deployment of the CSTO mission on the territory of Armenia would make a significant contribution to the stabilization of the situation in the Armenian- Azerbaijani border area. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated on July 20 during a weekly briefing, in response to a question whether there are any progress after the statement by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko about the need to resolve conflicts in the CSTO space.
She recalled that Moscow regularly comments on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, highlights the efforts made by Russia to implement trilateral agreements at the highest level. Zakharova added that the July 15 statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry contains, among other things, full-fledged assessments of the current situation.
"Let me remind you that Nagorno-Karabakh is not part of the CSTO's area of responsibility. At the same time, the deployment of the Organization's mission in Armenia would make a significant contribution to stabilizing the situation in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border area. Well, the ball is on the Armenian side," Zakharova summed up.
On June 8, 2023, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting with the secretaries of the security councils of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, said that it is necessary to put an end to the conflicts in the CSTO space, especially armed ones. He added that the resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be beneficial to both sides.
