ArmInfo. Talking about human rights in luxurious, beautiful halls is one thing, but proving and defending these rights with effective steps is quite another. This was stated by Artsakh Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan on Renaissance Square during a nationwide movement convened yesterday evening by State Minister of the Republic Gurgen Nersisyan for the sake of the salvation of Artsakh.
Stepanyan urged to stop the statements of "concern", "extreme concern", "appeals", and move on to effective steps.
<I appeal to all international actors: are you talking about human rights? Then tell me, how can I look people in the eye and say that they have these rights too? How do I look into the eyes of a starving pregnant woman whose child may be born with malformations, mothers who have only one dream - to get fruits or sweets for their children, how do I look at 1000 people who stand in lines for hours to get a handful of sugar or sunflower oil? Old people who go through inhuman hardships? How can I look into the eyes of a mother who is most afraid of losing her last holiness - the grave of her son? Answer me! I want you to look into their eyes so that you answer them! Because I don't find answers anymore!>, said the Ombudsman.
He also appealed to the Russian peacekeepers with an appeal to remain committed to their mandate - as a guarantor of the right to the physical existence of the Artsakh people. Stepanyan also sent his appeal to Armenia and the Diaspora - to stand up for Artsakh and prevent a new genocide. Addressing the international community, he stressed: "We cannot be part of Azerbaijan, that's all. It is high time to realize, all those who have illusions on this score. Tell me please, was it possible to imagine the life of Jews in Nazi Germany? Yes, Azerbaijan is the same Nazi country where the public is completely filled with hatred, enmity for the Armenians >.
Considering what is happening one of the biggest tragedies of the 21st century, Gegham Stpanyan demanded to stop talking and move on to concrete, effective steps.
<Indifference equals complicity! And remember, a crime with impunity is a repeated crime. Our past, our today and our tomorrow are also in your hands>, he concluded. Artsakh has been under a total blockade of Azerbaijan since December 12, 2022, as a result of which it is deprived of gas, electricity and basic necessities. All this is happening against the backdrop of the inaction of the civilized international community.
