ArmInfo. The Federal Republic of Germany is aware of the difficult geopolitical situation that has developed in this region and in Nagorno-Karabakh. Jens Brandenburg, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, stated in response to a question from an ArmInfo correspondent whether official Berlin is considering the possibility of assisting in restoring the rights of Artsakh students to receive education, which is being violated due to the Azerbaijani blockade of the Kashatagh (Lachin) corridor. It should be noted that at a meeting with him this issue was also raised by head of the MESCS Zhanna Andreasyan.
"And Germany, together with the European Union, strives to promote a peaceful settlement of this conflict, at the same time recognizing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia," Brandenburg stressed. In this vein, he noted that during the meeting at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the head of the department Zhanna Andreasyan spoke not only about the lack of basic living conditions that arose as a result of the blockade. Mr. Brandenburg said that the Armenian minister also focused attention on the universal human rights that the people of Nagorno-Karabakh have, including the right to education.
"I assure you that we will be consistent on these issues and try to shed light on the problem of the blockade, including from this angle," the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research emphasized.
Touching upon the purposes of his visit to Armenia, he noted that scientific-research cooperation between Armenia and Germany has more than 30 years of history. "And over the past ten years, my Ministry, together with the Armenian Science Committee, have deepened these relations. We now live in a difficult, turbulent period, where geopolitical processes dictate conditions. However, we have a serious potential for the development of our scientific and research relations. And in this turbulent period, we attach importance to the development of our cooperation, including with our Armenian partners," Brandenburg stressed.
He also said that today he had a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, and discussed with her the current cooperation in the research field and prospects for expanding cooperation, then held effective negotiations with the heads of Armenian universities, got acquainted with the activities of higher educational institutions of the country to determine the boundaries of possible cooperation. As he noted, he also met with the head of the RA Science Committee and visited the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies.
Brandenburg also said that tomorrow he will meet with the Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, visit the American University of Armenia, and in the afternoon will go to Lake Sevan to get acquainted with the implementation of a research program to study the quality of water in the lake and develop a plan for more efficient management of water resources.
