U.S. Ambassador pays familiarization visit to Shirak region of Armenia

ArmInfo. Governor of Shirak region Mushegh Muradyan received a delegation led by Ambassador of the United States of America to Armenia Kristina Kvien, who is in Gyumri on a familiarization visit.

The press service of the governor's office informs that welcoming the ambassador, the governor promised to represent the Shirak region with special responsibility, since the ambassador is here for the first time.

"Being a serious industrial center, after the earthquake, Gyumri lost its former power, but for decades various projects have been carried out to restore and rebuild the city. And there is still much to be done. No matter how hard Shirak's path was, it has preserved its special spirit and has great potential for the development of tourism and culture. There is potential for the development of such areas as small and medium-sized businesses, light industry, agriculture, etc.  Gyumri is one of those rare cities that has preserved the urban flavor of the 19th century and has great potential for development," he said.

The governor also pointed to the support provided by the U.S.  government to the Shirak region in the aftermath of the earthquake.  He expressed confidence that bilateral interstate relations will continue to develop dynamically, and decentralized partnership will be further strengthened.

The Ambassador, thanking the governor for the warm welcome, noted that it is a great honor for her to be in the Shirak region and discuss issues of mutual interest. In her opinion, with mutual readiness, new areas of cooperation will be outlined.
