ArmInfo. The Union of Journalists of Armenia strongly condemns the case of deliberate obstruction of the presswork in the Supreme Judicial Council (SCJ) of the Republic of Armenia without sufficient grounds. This is stated in the statement of UJA head Satik Seyranyan.
According to her, the journalists who came to the Supreme Judicial Council (SCJ) today to cover the previously announced open sessions could not fulfill their professional duties. Seyranyan stated that this happened because the bailiffs of the Judicial Department did not let them into the meeting room of the Supreme Court of Justice, where decisions on disciplinary liability against a number of judges were to be published.
<The bailiffs who formed a living wall, sometimes raising their voices at journalists, forbade them to go up to the meeting room, citing the fact that the seats were occupied and there was nowhere to sit.
Meanwhile, the seats in the meeting room were mainly occupied by employees of the Judicial Department and relatives of Karen Andreasyan and his team, because an hour before the start of the first meeting, scheduled for 11:00, none of the journalists who went to the building of the SCJ was an eyewitness of the gatherings people or queues at the entrance to the courthouse. In addition, journalists were ready to cover the event, but the Judicial Department was undeterred. And this is in the case when the journalist was not just a spectator, but the Department was obliged to ensure unhindered access for journalists who came to work in the meeting room of the SCJ>, Seyranyan noted, condemning these actions of the SCJ.
She also said that in the near future she was going to contact the RA Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan regarding the obvious fact of obstructing the presswork in the RA Supreme Court.
We add that minutes earlier, the office of the Human Rights defender of Armenia reacted to the situation, where they promised to analyze the situation and make a separate statement after that.
