ArmInfo. The so-called Research Center for Turkish-Armenian Relations was opened in Erzrum. The ultimate and main goal of the center is to stir up Armenophobia in Turkey.
According to the Anadolu agency, the head of the Erzrum municipality, Mehmet Sekmen, spoke at the opening of the Center named after Professor Erol Kyurkcuoglu. He recalled that the well-known historian Kyurkcuoglu devoted more than 20 years of his life to the topic of Turkish-Armenian relations.
Along with the Center in Erzrum, there will also be a library named after Professor Erol Kyurkcuoglu, which contains thousands of documents and publications on the topic of Armenian-Turkish relations. According to Sekmen, the archives collected by the professors tell how "Armenian gangs killed civilians in Erzurum and other parts of Eastern Anatolia." The head of the municipality expressed hope that the new Center would contribute to "exposing the lies about the pseudo-Armenian genocide."
The opening of this center is a clear example of how Turkey falsifies history as part of a policy of denial. The opening of the center with such a bias once again demonstrates the correctness of the decision of the previous authorities of Armenia to refuse the proposal of the Turkish side to transfer the issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire from the international political field to the research field. Moreover, against the background of the "epoch of peace" declared by the current authorities of Armenia and the full course towards rapprochement with Turkey, the opening of this center by the Turkish authorities raises many questions that, in the current realities, are clearly rhetorical.
