ArmInfo. After the change of power in Armenia in 2018, when it became obvious that the wrong choice had been made, the Armenian people found themselves in a cycle of non-stop humiliation. Former RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian wrote on his Facebook page, commenting on a statement by the US State Department, which welcomes recent statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about discussing the issue of "amnesty" for the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh.
<It seemed that a heavy defeat in the 44-day war was the height of humiliation, but it turned out that this was not the case when the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan handed over Artsakh to Azerbaijan, first verbally, and soon, no doubt, he will hand it over in writing. Another drop of humiliation was added yesterday, when the United States welcomed Ilham Aliyev's "good will" to pardon the Artsakh authorities," Oskanyan said.
He pointed out the importance of the moment to understand what it means. <The most corrupt and authoritarian leader in the world promises to pardon the elected people who have lived on their historical land for generations and millennia. This land has never been part of independent Azerbaijan, which for decades used the most brutal violence against the people living in Karabakh. And the US welcomes this move? But the United States should not be blamed for this. There is another culprit here - these are the current authorities of Armenia. The only way to get out of this humiliation and radically change the situation is to achieve the resignation of these authorities through national pressure. I believe that the entire Armenian public today has no other priority than to raise their voice against these historical injustices committed by the Armenian authorities and the demand to abandon the process of transferring Artsakh to Azerbaijan>, the ex-minister wrote.
He also pointed to the presence of more than 190 member countries of the UN, which entered the organization with certain boundaries. Currently, there are more than 50 territorial disputes in the world, which means that there are at least two dozen countries with unresolved territorial issues. With the exception of a few of them, all these countries have diplomatic relations, mostly friendly and normal relations. <At the moment, Nikol Pashinyan is in Chisinau. I don't know if he will sign the document or not. I think that today Armenia has a chance to avoid signing any document with Azerbaijan. There are good reasons for this, which are obvious to everyone. However, if Nikol Pashinyan wants to sign any document, he must sign it with a reservation regarding the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh. If Pashinyan signs what he said verbally, it will become an irreversible national tragedy for the Armenian people," Vartan Oskanian said. -
