ArmInfo.High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Zareh Sinanyan made an explosive statement that the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide has been completed.
In a conversation with journalists on May 31, he noted that this happened due to a gap formed in the Armenian Diaspora, where one of the largest organizations involved in this process left the field. "For 30 years, we have used the vast resources of the Diaspora for Genocide recognition, we have achieved tactical results, but at the same time we have not achieved strategic results. The genocide was recognized, we won a moral victory, but, by doing so, the security of the Armenian people did not improve. We, as a nation that has not had statehood for centuries, thought how to survive for only 2 weeks. Meanwhile, we need strategic thinking," said Sinanyan.
Speaking about Armenia-Turkey relations, the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs noted the importance of the meeting between the leaders of the two states. "We have a neighbor with a population of 85 million, and he has a re-elected president, and we are a state that must continue to exist. Therefore, this means that our leadership should talk to their leadership. History has proven that when we do not speak, others do it for us>, Sinanyan said.
When asked whether Sinanyan shares the point of view of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on recognizing Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, the Commissioner noted that people in Artsakh live on their native land, and there is a problem of their self-determination. Sinanyan linked the voiced statements about the recognition of the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the results of the 2020 war. Moreover, as always, he connected the defeat in that war with the policy of the previous authorities, who, according to the Commissioner, "kept the country in a weak state."
