ArmInfo.A new movement, Mother Armenia, is being founded in Armenia to unite broad sections of the public.
The action group of the Mother Armenia movement, based on the Declaration of Independence and immutable principles of Armenia's Constitution, realizing the value of the achievements of the Karabakh movement of 1988;, stating that the incumbent authorities' policy results is violations of Armenia's Constitution, resolution of the Supreme Council of Armenia of July 8, 1992, is evidence of a most serious existential threat to both Artsakh and Armenia, secure life and development of the Armenian people in its own homeland.
"Highly appreciating the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Armenian people and highlighting the important of fundamental reforms of education on a national basis and of a cultural policy, we consider it necessary that Armenia develop as a rule-of-law state, by means of a judicial system independent of the executive power formed of people with high professional and moral qualities, highlights the importance of forming national unity on preventing a death-dealing policy of the incumbent authorities, annihilation of Artsakh and disintegration of Armenia's security system," reads the Declaration by the action group of the Mother Armenian movement.
The change of power in Armenia is 2018 failed to justify the Armenian people's just aspirations to build up a prosperous, secure and more democratic rule-of-law state. "On the contrary, the 'velvet revolution' resulted in a war with thousand of victims and a split society, with a start given to catastrophic developments involving Artsakh. The vicious practices of 1991-2018 were not eradicated, with an overwhelming majority of our citizens falling victim to populism. The judicial system has become even more dependent on the executive power and turned into a baton used against all opponents. The political opponents of the authorities - well-known opposition members and military figures - are illegally arrested. All this amid unpunished disrespect, violence and murders by people close to the government circles. The promised battle against corruption and merge of power and business failed. Moreover, the 'velvet revolution' caused the emergence of dollar millionaires. The rising prices made low-income citizens - pensioners and people on the dole - even more vulnerable. Over 40% of Armenia's citizens are on the verge of poverty. The share of shadow economy has increased," the authors state.
The enemy is in Armenia's territory and threatening its sovereignty and international personality, while Artsakh is on the verge of annihilation. The war claimed thousands of lives and made over 11,000 disabled. POWs and others remain in Baku's prisons. The authorities reneged on their election pledges made during the 2021 parliamentary elections. Instead of the "peace agenda" and a policy of ensuring the Artsakh people's right to self-determination Armenia saw a new war, victims and territorial losses. The authorities are treacherously recognizing Artsakh part of Azerbaijan and are ready to cede Armenia's territories. Their positions made them illegitimate. And the authorities' disastrous foreign policy has made Armenia an arena of clashing geopolitical forces. Armenia's incumbent authorities destroyed the security architecture thereby endangering Armenia's relations with its natural strategic allies.
"By recognizing Artsakh part of Azerbaijan in Prague, on October 6, 2022, Armenia's authorities de facto proved to be accomplices to the abolition of the agreements of November 9, 2020. That enabled Azerbaijan to block Artsakh and lay territorial claims on Armenia. the Berdzor corridor was blocked as a result of the Prague agreements. The security systems of Armenia and Artsakh are interconnected and their disconnection is pregnant with tragic consequences. The argument for the existence of one of them by scarifying the other is not only immoral, but is also fallacious and hazardous. The authorities are consistently splitting the Diaspora causing it to become estranged from Mother Armenia," the Declaration reads.
Considering the above, the action group is founding a popular movement to unite broad sections of the public. The movement has no party affiliation and its goal is not coming to power. Its primary task is defending national interests of Armenia, Artsakh the Armenian people. A government of like-minded people to be formed after a power change is expected to organize early parliamentary elections within a year. Armenia's new premier must publicly state that during his premiership nor party or political alliance will run for Parliament. His primary task must be ensuring Armenia's security, organizing free, fair and transparent elections.
"We are calling for putting aside our party and group interests and remove the antinational regime from power by means of large-scale popular unity. In the current situation, a peaceful change of power is the only chance to cause a historic breakthrough. The movement is open to admitting likeminded individuals and organizations," the Declaration reads.
