ArmInfo. For the first time, we hear from the Russian Federation about Moscow's support for the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, said at briefings in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on May 26.
Referring to the debate between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the session of the Eurasian Supreme Council yesterday in Moscow, the MP did not rule out that the approaches of the parties in the negotiation process, related to the terminology of "corridor" logic, may come closer. Moreover, based on Aliyev's statement, there is no attempt at exterritorial ownership of the Zangezur corridor. At the same time, Hovhannisyan considered inappropriate the journalist's question about the possibility of mutual compromises on this issue, since the Armenian side has repeatedly pointed to the "red" lines, which include this corridor. "I believe that during yesterday's meeting this was once again confirmed," the MP noted.
In turn, NA member from the same faction Vladimir Vardanyan, speaking about the upcoming meeting of the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan in Moscow, noted that the opening of the Lachin corridor cannot be linked to the unblocking of all transport communications in the region, since the Lachin corridor, which connects Artsakh with Armenia, regulated under the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020.
Vardanyan noted that in fact the parties, as well as the International Court of Justice, confirmed this. As for the de-blockade of the region, as the parliamentarian noted, the parties have repeatedly treated this initiative positively. , Vardanyan said, adding that while there is no corresponding agreement, it is very difficult to talk about the details.
