ArmInfo. The peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan should be based on long-term, sustainable solutions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin believes.
Thus, in an interview with RIA Novosti, in response to a question about the preparation of a peace treaty between the parties, he indicated that, given the extreme sensitivity of these issues, Moscow will refrain from commenting on the progress of the negotiation process so as not to hinder its progress.
"It is up to Baku and Yerevan to decide what corresponds to their fundamental interests and how they intend to ensure stable and reliable peace for their peoples," added the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister. He recalled that Russia fully supports the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Galuzin is sure that this joint work should be considered in the context of the implementation of a set of tripartite agreements agreed upon by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia since November 2020.
"They are the basis of the process of normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and form the road map of reconciliation between Baku and Yerevan. It includes steps for the opening of transport and economic connections, the demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the development of contacts through civil society," he said.
Returning to the topic of the peace treaty, Galuzin said that" the Russian side is helping to find common ground, coming to terms and compromises that suit them."
Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President, told journalists today that Russian President Vladimir Putin will have separate bilateral meetings with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan on May 25, then a trilateral meeting is expected.
